2008 Newbery Medal Winner

The Newbery Medal honors the author making the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children, an annual award made by the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC). The ALSC is a division of the American Library Association.

This year's winner is "Good Masters! Sweet Ladies! Voices from a Medieval Village" by Laura Amy Schlitz (Candlewick). The story follows the lives of 21 characters through personal narratives.

The ALSC also named four titles as Honor Books for 2008:

  • "Elijah of Buxton" by Christopher Paul Curtis
  • "The Wednesday Wars" by Gary D. Schmidt
  • "Feathers" by Jacqueline Woodson
Access a list of past winners and honor books or learn more about this year's winners at the official Newbery Medal home page.
